The Hub team cordially invites you to participate in the world's first international conference examining how immersive technologies such as augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) may affect international affairs. We highly encourage you to join us in person at the Elliott School. In-person attendees will be able to try out several virtual reality experiences on devices provided by Meta, the US Army, and the US Airforce. They will also be able to network and interact directly with speakers and other attendees during Q&A periods, meals, and coffee breaks.

About the Event:
Immersive spatial computing technologies such as augmented reality and virtual reality can change how we see, interact with, and experience the world. However, we don’t know how these technologies (which we refer to collectively as XR) may affect global governance and international relations. The conference aims to foster a discussion around these issues. Between June 9-10, our panels will:
Discuss how XR may affect key issues and institutions of international governance such as national security, democracy, human rights, and international economics.
Explore how XR challenges the roles of the nation state, corporations, and individuals.
Examine how some countries are already adapting to the opportunities and risks posed by XR.

Audience and Format:
The free two-day hybrid event is designed to facilitate a dialogue among attendees and speakers. Some speakers will be live cast and the event will be available live on YouTube. In-person attendees will be provided food and the opportunity to experience XR with programs and headsets provided by Meta, the US Air Force, and the US Army.
For more information about the conference, please check out the Conference Webpage.
For information on times, speakers, and topics, please check out the Conference Schedule.

Please note that COVID conditions are constantly changing and as of May, GWU requires all in-person attendees to be masked, vaccinated, and boosted. We will notify all in-person registrants of any changes to the policy.

If you have any questions about the conference you can email Adam Zable at azable@gwu.edu.
