Assistant professor in philosophy (full-time), University of Twente

The department of philosophy at the University of Twente is looking for an assistant professor in philosophy (full-time) for an appointment period of four years, ideally starting on December 2019 or January 2020. Due to need to fill this position quickly, we are reaching out informally to our trusted channels at this point, rather than sending out an official job advertisement.  Given the composition of the staff, we are especially looking for a female candidate. 

The candidate will teach broadly in philosophy and ethics for bachelor and master programmes in engineering and social science.  This may include some or all of the following:  introductory philosophy, applied ethics, engineering ethics, medical ethics, computer and information ethics, ethics for various social sciences, philosophy of technology, philosophy of science.

S/he could also be assigned to teach in our two-year master program in Philosophy of Science, Technology and Society (PSTS) and be involved in the supervision of master’s theses in the PSTS program.  The candidate will also contribute to the research programme of the department, which is in the philosophy of technology (including environmental, biomedical, information, and other technologies).  We are looking for an candidate with teaching experience and a PhD in philosophy. Initial assistant professor salary is € 3.637,- - € 4.978,- per month, depending on experience.  On top of the annual salary the candidate receives a 8% vacation bonus and 8.3% end-of-year bonus.  Foreign candidates are likely to qualify for low 30% taxation rate.
