There will be a particular focus on challenges of disruptive technologies to key concepts and values, like “truth”, “agency”, “democracy”, “human nature” and “life. The conference will host parallel tracks on topics like “Technology and Changing Self-understanding”, “The Ethics of Human-Like Robots”, “Democracy and Technology”, “At the Intersection of Ethics and STEM” and “Moral Change and Technology”.

This is a conference organized by the ESDiT consortium. ESDiT (an acronym for “Ethics of Socially Disruptive Technologies”) is a decade-spanning international research programme to achieve break-through research at the intersection of ethics, philosophy and technology / engineering. It is carried by seven academic institutions in The Netherlands, and has a combined budget of € 27 million. The programme is closely affiliated with the 4TU.Centre for Ethics and Technology (4TU.Ethics) and the Ethics Institute of Utrecht University. ESDiT is funded by the Ministry for Education, Culture and Science and the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) in The Netherlands, and by matching funds from the participating institutions.
